Theo, I would like to mention this from my experience for the other parents:
* Babies need a lot of skin to skin, and it helps to put them with only a nappy on right onto your skin, under your clothes. If you manage to calm yourself down first (deep breaths, positive thoughts), it works!!
* Another tip is that baby's digestive system needs to culture all the required bacteria to digest milk, and these bacterial cultures need to "mature" for the digestion to work well. My paediatrician recommended supplementing with lactobacillus supplements which are specially formulated for paediatric use.
* Third and last tip - do not confuse colic with reflux. It is very possible a "colicky" baby may also be suffering from acid reflux and may require medication for that. Reflux is a condition where newborns bring up milk because the upper sphincter of the stomach does not close properly (yet). The acid which is supposed to help digest the milk rises into the oesophagus and causes discomfort, much like heartburn in adults. Some babies may be so badly affected they cry a lot more than what is usual. Have this checked by your doctor.
